Oilfield Automation with MRD-310 industrial 3G router

Lufkin Automation has chosen the Westermo MRD-310 3G router to equip its SAM Well Manager product, the oil industry’s most advanced technological solution for high-precision monitoring and control of rod-pumping wells. Used in a series of pilot projects, mainly for the European and Asian markets, the MRD-310 provide a very high level of connectivity, and support many mobile standards including GSM, GPRS, 3G UMTS, HSDPA and HSUPA. Dedicated to harsh environments, MRD-310 is aimed to demonstrate significant cost savings in this application.

Wolverine 200-series gets Class 1, Division 2 approval

Three models in the popular Wolverine Ethernet Extender series from Westermo have been enhanced with the Class 1, Division 2 approval. This allows the Wolverine series to be installed in hazardous or potentially explosive environments containing volatile, flammable vapours and gases.

Lyonnaise des Eaux chooses Westermo

More than 100 Ethernet DDW-100 connectors – and 15 Ethernet R208 switches – from Westermo have been installed to manage information from 65 boreholes in the Saint Avold area in Eastern France. Knowing that peak demand on the site can reach 3500m3 an hour, the challenge posed by the reliability and availability of the equipment becomes obvious. An Ethernet network in a redundant ring, connecting the sites that are up to 20km apart, has therefore been installed.

Viper series

The Viper is a family of M12 ultra slim rugged Ethernet switches designed for applications with severe operating conditions and extreme environments. A MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) calculated to more than a 100 years, makes these units ideal for situations where mechanical stress, moisture, condensation, dirt or continuous vibrations could adversely affect the function of standard Ethernet switches.

Amsterdam gas and energy distribution

Alliander is a Dutch energy company that serves more than 2.5 million private and business customers in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Alliander’s subsidiary Liandon has chosen Westermo's DDW-221 and DDW-100 Ethernet extenders to be part of the regulation, real time monitoring, alarms and flow measurement system of Amsterdam's gas and energy distribution network. In total Alliander has installed 6 DDW-221s and 280 DDW-100s to upgrade its gas distribution system into a modern, SCADA controlled and monitored communication system.

TR-36B rackable modem

The TR-36B is a rack mount analogue V.34 PSTN and 2 or 4 wire leased line modem. The modem and its rack are designed for harsh industrial applications where a number of modems are required in the same location. It is perfectly adapted for operating in environments with electromagnetic interferences and provides the best levels of reliability and security. It is also an ideal solution for remote connections using existing copper lines. TR-36B supports data rates of up to 115.2 kbit/s on the terminal side and modem modulation speeds of up to 33.6 kbit/s on the line side.

High speed SHDSL Ethernet extender

Thanks to the SHDSL transmission technology, Westermo’s DDW-120 Ethernet extender allows existing twisted pair cables to be used to establish a high-speed remote connection between two Ethernet networks. With transfer rates up to 5.7 Mbits/s and an operating distance of up to 15 kilometres at lower data rates, this is an easy-to-install alternative to fibre optic or radio systems when linking remote Ethernet networks. Further, the DDW-120 employs a transient blocking unit on each line interface to provide both over-current and over-voltage protection thus allowing the line to handle indirect lightning strike transients, power induction and short circuit problems.

Industrial 3G routers MRD-310 and MRD-330

The new MRD-310 and MRD-330 are robust 3G routers designed for remote access across mobile networks. They provide a very high level of connectivity, and support many mobile standards including GSM, GPRS, 3G UMTS, HSDPA and HSUPA allowing uplink transfer rates of up to 2Mbit/s. Together with the rugged enclosure, DIN-rail mounting and an operating voltage range spanning from 10 VDC to 60 VDC, they are designed for industrial applications in harsh environments. Typical on board (train, trucks, etc.) or ground applications include video surveillance, SCADA/DNP3 telemetry systems and remote access to machines and devices.

High speed Ethernet extender with build in switch

The Westermo DDW-220 is an Ethernet extender enhanced with a built-in four port Ethernet switch which allows this one unit to be used to create entire Ethernet solutions. Existing twisted pair cables can be used to establish a high speed remote connection between two Ethernet networks. With transfer rates up to 5.7 Mbits/s and with an operating distance of up to 10 kilometres at lower data rates, this is an easy-to-install alternative to fibre optic or radio systems when linking remote Ethernet networks. The DDW-220 uses a transient blocking unit on each DSL line to provide both over-current and over-voltage protection on the line allowing it to handle indirect lightning strike transients, power induction and short circuit problems.
